A Fyne Vintage!

I’m delighted to announce that I’ve just taken delivery of my demonstration pair of Vintage 5 loudspeakers from Fyne Audio. I had the opportunity to play with a pair a few weeks ago and I was more than impressed with their abilities.

The Vintage Series is Fyne paying homage to classic speakers from days gone by, they are wonderfully retro in terms of their visuals, but sonically they right out of the 21st century, designed using Fyne’s technical expertise – Dr Paul Mills has really surpassed himself with these.

As with other Fyne models the name of the speaker pays reference to the drive unit size, the Vintage 5 utilises a 5 inch IsoFlare drive unit, with their FyneFlute roll surround, state-of-the art BassTrax downwards-firing port system and hand-built cryogenically treated crossovers.

The curved cabinets are elegant with really smart walnut veneers and burr walnut inlays, Fyne have certainly left no stone unturned in their design, I always thought they looked really nice seeing them in images, but you don’t appreciate the attention to detail and the quality of the finish until you are sitting in front of a pair.

Technically on paper the Vintage 5 are like a pair of F1-5, but in a completely different visual package, this does change the voice of the speaker with the Vintage 5 being a little more rounded and warmer sounding, the F1-5 are a little more neutral. Given their size both speakers are designed to work in small to medium sized rooms.

The Vintage 5’s are £3750 a pair and I’ve got my demo pair sitting on top of a pair of the superb Solidsteel SS-6 stands, in their ‘raw’ finish they look superb and combine brilliantly with the speakers (both visually and sonically), these are £579 a pair in this finish.

Partnered with a Gold Note IS-1000 Deluxe (£5300) streaming Qobuz it makes for a really compelling system for the money, I’ve lost countless hours on an evening this week delving into my library – always a good sign!

I’ve also spent some time with them running on the T+A 200 Series and although the asking price of the system rises to just over £13,000 the Vintage Five’s more than rise to the occasion.

Make no mistake this are an incredibly capable little pair of speakers, in a typically average UK room they offer great bass weight and extension with excellent scale.

A more in depth post with happen at some point in the neear, I wanted this be to a bit of an introduction to them and simply to make people aware they are here. Please get in touch if you would like to arrange a demonstration with them.
