Melco have just launched an additional version of their N50 model. The first N50 launched in late 2021 and although it looks visually like the older N1A it is all new in terms of its internals with a new mainboard, a new larger power supply and a bespoke 3.84TB SSD storage drive manufactured in low volumes to Melco’s exacting specification
Priced at £4999 the N50 S38 is a superb performing model and outperforms the outgoing popular N1ZH model (never mind the N1A!), since it’s launch I don’t recall a customer listening to one who didn’t subsequently purchase one.
Fast forward to today and Melco have released a new version of the N50, which is the same as the SSD version but uses an all new 6TB HDD, alongside a brand new mounting cradle for the HDD, designed to minimise vibration from affecting the drive. The 6TB storage is the biggest Melco have used in a machine to date and will be particularly useful for those with large libraries.
Priced at £2999 the new N50-H60 is perfect for those people who have an original N1A who want to upgrade performance but don’t want to jump up to the £4999 of the N50-S38.
In terms of the feature set of the N50-H60 it is no different to the other Melco models and offers the following key features:-
- Dedicated USB DAC port
- 2 Ethernet ports for connecting to Network Player (like Linn/Naim)
- 3 USB ports for import/back up/expansion (plus one further USB on the front)
- Stream Tidal/Qobuz when connected to USB DAC
- Roon Ready
- Auto Download of purchases from Qobuz and High Res Audio
- Minimserver & SongKong onboard
As ever part exchange is welcome so if you have an N1A that you would like to part exchange for either version of the N50 don’t hesitate to get in touch.
