Entreq Silver Tellus Tungsten Ground Box

The Silver Tellus Tungsten is one of Entreq’s newest ground boxes, released toward the end of 2024. The Silver Tellus is seen by many as Entreq’s classic ground box and this new model is the 3rd version.

The original Silver Tellus was the first Entreq Ground Box I ever experienced and when I started Audio Therapy in 2017 I hit the ground running with my demonstration model. I must have loaned it out to around 10 or 12 customers in that first 6 month period and literally every customer who tried it ending up placing an order. It was hugely transformative in terms of what it was capable of doing in a system.

Entreq ground boxes remove noise in the signal path which subsequently improves system performance, words like calmness, poise, stability were frequently thrown around by customers. It was used in all manner of systems as well with brands such as Vitus, Naim, dCS, Linn, Bryston, VTL and Chord Electronics.

This original version of the Silver Tellus has 4 ground posts and they are shared on 1 common ground plane, this gave it enormous capacity to remove noise and you could comfortably connect 3 or 4 components to it, although it wasn’t suitable for connecting to the negative outputs of an amplifier (this requires 2 independent boxes).

In 2019 Entreq revised the design of the Silver Tellus and the Infinity version was released. Visually it looked the same but the ground posts were configured differently, there are 2 separate zones of grounding, 3 posts on 1 zone and the 4th post on the 2nd zone. This does give greater flexibility, the separate zone being useful for keeping a digital component separate, like a streamer, switch or router for example.

Fast forward to the end of 2024 and Entreq have a new range of ground boxes with Tungsten being introduced as a material in many of them. The Silver Tellus Tungsten is the 3rd version of the Silver Tellus and both performance and flexibility have been give a sizeable boost with this new model.

Like the previous versions the Silver Tellus Tungsten retains 4 ground posts with 2 separate zones, but in this box they are of equal size. This means this new box is ideal for using for negative output grounding on an amplifier. It could be used for connecting digital components to one zone and analogue components to another or keeping a phono stage isolated by itself, for most systems there is usually plenty of options over how you can integrate one into a system.

Every iteration of the Silver Tellus has been a fairly heavy box and this new Tungsten version is no different, weighing in at 20kg, it follows the same approximate shape as the older versions and is 440m wide x 155mm high and 320mm deep.

As ever with Entreq the role of the Silver Tellus Tungsten is to improve performance by removing noise, interference and pollution present in the signal path – making the sound calmer, more natural and organic with greater refinement, improved detail, better dynamics and above all else the system becomes more musical. Noise is present in every element of a system, you obviously can’t hear this noise, but once you remove it the level of improvement you gain can be quite profound.

Relative to other boxes the performance you can get from the Silver Tellus Tungsten strong, it is a considerable step up over a Macro Twin Kit and a pair of Silver Minimus Tungsten. The Silver Tellus and Silver Minimus Tungsten boxes contain the same mineral mixture, but the Silver Tellus Tungsten is approximately 10x heavier than 1 Silver Minimus Tungsten so it has much greater capacity to remove noise. The Silver Tellus Tungsten is £2000 compared to £1160 for 2 Silver Minimus Tungsten.

In many ways the Silver Tellus Tungsten represents better value than 2 Olympus Ten Tungstens which are £1200 each.

The smaller Entreq boxes have always been incredibly popular as they are more affordable, customers can add them as budget permits and they can be easier to accommodate if space is at a premium, but if you have room a Silver Tellus Tungsten is a superb option.

In the short time I’ve had a Silver Tellus Tungsten on permanent demonstration I’ve already supplied and installed a few for customers, all being used in differing ways and the feedback I’ve had from each customer has been superb, an eye opener for several of them who I don’t think we expecting much. It is always very rewarding when a sceptical potential customer listens and is really taken aback by the benefits it brings to their system.

There is a comprehensive choice of ground cables to go with them, starting with the Copper which are £120 each, there are a further 5 ground cables in the range with the Hexa (£280), Revelation (£400), Apollo (£600), Sudoku (£900) and Olympus (£1400). All ground cables now come hardwired with a connector of choice (RCA, XLR RJ45, USB, Spade are the most common options, things like 5 Pin Din are available too.

Apollo and Olympus have consistently been the most popular ground cables, although the new Revelation is carving out a nice space for itself, a more affordable version of the Apollo, it uses a smaller gauge of cable and they give you a big slice of Apollo performance for less money.

There is also the Max-T ground post which can replace 1 of the 4 wooden nuts on the back of the box, a Max-T is £400 and they serve as a superb upgrade to any ground box with a wooden nut, I’m always happy to let a customer borrow one so they can find out what they do, they are incredibly impressive and very impactful.

Please get in touch if you have any questions, we always have a healthy selection of pre-owned Entreq available which has been part exchanged from customers who have upgraded.
