The entry level N100 Music Library from Melco has been a very popular item here at Audio Therapy. As with all things Melco it sounds superb and is incredibly easy to operate. The original 2TB N100 isn’t going anywhere but for those who have larger libraries of ripped or downloaded music now have the option to choose a 5TB version instead.
This offers a 150% increase in capacity over the 2TB N100 and is available now for £2499.00, this drive they are using in this new version is identical to the drive used in the 45th Anniversary N10. Other than the upgrade to capacity this new N100 H50 is identical in every way to the existing N100.
There are 2 USB ports on the rear panel (one for a USB DAC and one for a D100 for example), there is also a USB socket on the front which is useful for importing from USB sticks and passport drives.
As with all models of Melco the N100 features 2 ethernet ports on the rear. The LAN port connects to your network and enables the N100 to see the outside world (for control, software updates and streaming Tidal/Qobuz when using a USB DAC), the second ethernet port is called the Player Port. If you are using a Naim or Linn Network Player you connect your player into the Player Port so it isn’t connected directly to the Network which essentially protects it from noise and interference on your network. The Player Port offers a nice boost in performance where it be used.
We carry the whole Melco range on demonstration so anyone thinking of adding a Melco to their system is more than welcome to arrange a home loan, no better way than trying it in your own system before you commit!
