Kroma Atelier Thais Loudspeakers
The Thais are the second loudspeaker in Kroma Atelier’s entry level Classic Series, and are their first floorstanding model.
Kroma are a Spanish company, based in Andalucia in southern Spain.
The entire range of Kroma loudspeakers (13 models across 3 distinct ranges) are all manufactured from Krion™ which is a material designed and manufactured by the Porcelanosa Group. Krion™ is very much like Corian in the way it looks and feels, visually they are superb and a break from the norm is very refreshing.
They almost look and feel like natural stone, it is comprised of two-thirds natural minerals (aluminium trihydrate) and a low percentage of high-resistance resins. This composition gives Krion™ a number of exclusive features: it does not have any pores, it is very hard-wearing, highly resistant, it only requires minimum maintenance and is very easy to clean. Due to the nature of Krion™ and its properties it is very strong acoustically and offers excellent insulating properties.
The Thais stands at 1 metre tall and is a relatively compact floorstanding and will work in most typical living rooms, they are rear ported and will appreciate a little space behind from the wall for them to perform to their best, but they are not a particular fussy loudspeaker, they are just under 35cm deep and 23 cm wide.
They are not a particularly difficult speaker to drive, but as ever the quality of the amplification used is more important than the amount of power available, 25 world class watts will always be superior to 200 watts where corners are cut and compromises made. A Vitus RI-101 mk2 or SIA-025 mk2 is a wonderful combination, incredibly fluid and mellifluous as is the T+A PA 3100 HV.
The Thais are priced at £21,000 in the classic all white Kroma finish, but you do have the option to change the side cheeks to Titanium, Aluminium, Champagne, Carbon Fibre or Wood for the same cost, plus there are cost option paint finishes which add £1065 to the price of the Thais.
